Antonio Conte suffered another painful return to Stamford Bridge as his Tottenham side lost 2-0 to Chelsea this afternoon.

The North London side were recently knocked out of the Carabao Cup semi-finals by the Blues after suffering a 2-0 away loss and 1-0 home loss, leaving the Italian coach with a bitter taste in his mouth after facing Chelsea for the first time since his explosive departure.

Conte left Chelsea amidst a cloud of controversy, being sacked after two seasons in charge following serious disagreements with the club’s directors regarding the transfer strategy. He later won a £26m payout following his early dismissal. It would be fair to say that the two parties have a relatively frosty relationship, then.

Well it was the Blues who got the last laugh at Stamford Bridge this afternoon after they secured their third win in three weeks over the Lillywhites, who now sit 11 points behind in the Premier League table.

The defeat today was also Conte’s first Premier League loss with Tottenham, giving Chelsea something else to smile about on a cold January evening.
