The injury problems continue to pile up for Cagliari, as now Marco Mancosu has been ruled out for six weeks following knee surgery.

The forward suffered a partial tear of the collateral medial ligament in his right knee during a training session.

An operation was successful today, but it does mean he is expected to be out of action for circa six weeks.

It is another bitter blow for the Sardinians, who were bumped up to Serie A by winning a dramatic promotion play-off with Bari.

Last week they already saw striker Gianluca Lapadula go under the knife to bring stability to the medial ligament in his right ankle.

It is not clear how long midfielder Marko Rog will be out for, as he suffered another lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

He had already suffered similar issues in December 2020 and again in July 2021.

Cagliari are under the guidance of coach Claudio Ranieri and start their Serie A season against Torino on August 21.
