Spezia have announced another player has tested positive for COVID-19, so their pre-season friendly for today has been cancelled.

They had been due to play Montebelluna at 16.00 UK time this afternoon.

However, the Coronavirus outbreak within the matchday squad continues to grow with another player testing positive today.

It’s not confirmed precisely how many between players and staff have tested positive, but it’s believed to be circa 15.

Their club doctor had blamed the initial outbreak on two players who he referred to as ‘anti-vaxxers’, refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

It’s reported the rest of the group had the first jab, but it takes two weeks after the second jab for the vaccine to take full effect.

It has been a tough summer for Spezia, who saw coach Vincenzo Italiano poached by Fiorentina just weeks after he had signed a contract extension with the Liguria club, then brought in Thiago Motta to take over.
