Empoli could bring back Aurelio Andreazzoli, freeing up Alessio Dionisi for Sassuolo rather than Sampdoria.

The Tuscans earned promotion to Serie A by winning the Serie B title this season, putting their coach Dionisi on the map.

He had been in talks with Sampdoria, but today Sky Sport Italia pointed to him suddenly veering towards Sassuolo instead.

Now Sportitalia explain the reasons are that Sassuolo have a squad and a style of football that is already more suited to Dionisi’s tactics.

At the same time, Empoli are now prepared to release their coach, because they have found his replacement.

It’s in truth a return, because Andreazzoli already had two different spells at Empoli in 2017-18 and for just 11 games to close the 2018-19 season.

He had started the 2019-20 campaign on the Genoa bench, only to be dismissed after nine matches.
