Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli admitted he felt sorry for Fabrizio Castori, who was sacked by Salernitana this week and believes the clash on Saturday is worth ‘four points’.

The two newly promoted sides meet in Serie A Week 9, but the team from Salerno host Empoli without Castori at the helm.

Five days ago, Salernitana confirmed Castori had been relieved of his duties as coach of the first team, with Stefano Colantuono taking over at the Stadio Arechi.

“I’m happy for Colantuono, and I’m very sorry for those who have suffered like Castori,” Andreazzoli said at a press conference. “This is nothing new in football, these are situations we know very well.

“I was a little sorry to hear some comments that the previous coach did not deserve. But it’s a question of the level of sensitivity you have or don’t have. In my opinion, a little more was needed.”

The coach said the match against Salernitana represents an opportunity to beat a direct rival and hopes to see ‘a more complete’ Empoli in the future.

“Usually we talk about three points, this time we can talk about four,” he said. “It’s evident that the games take on different importance, not only related to the result.

“We believe we have learned from the defeat to Atalanta. We have also worked a lot on the positive aspects.

“We must continue on our own path by becoming more complete than we are now.”
