The Biancocelesti have been in turmoil in recent weeks, with Marcelo Bielsa failing to turn-up, and Keita Balde and Felipe Anderson on strike.

“My argument and insistence with Lazio to play in the games is based on what had been agreed with the club before going on holiday,” the Brazilian explained to globoesporte.

“My agents spoke with the Lazio hierarchy and they assured I could stay here in Brazil to join the national team. Everything was fine until I was informed of Bielsa's arrival, who vetoed it.

"I felt that I had given my word to the CBF, so I told them not to worry because I had always had Lazio's approval. Given the non-arrival of Bielsa I hope things will change and the situation can be resolved.

“The club has always supported me in this so I don’t see why I should now be prevented from realising this dream.

“I’m sure that in the end common sense will prevail and this story will end in the best way for all concerned.”
