The Serbian striker has been valued at around €15m and his representative Pini Zahavi told Metro newspaper that “Mitrovic will sign a contract for five seasons” with the Magpies.
However, his club Anderlecht insist the situation is still wide open for Roma, Benfica and Porto.
“We are talking to different clubs,” director of sport Herman van Holsbeeck told Calciomercato.it.
“Will his future be in Italy? I cannot name names, but we are very busy.”
The Giallorossi have been hesitating to complete the transfer because Mitrovic is second choice to Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko.
