Carlo Ancelotti has made history yet again becoming the only coach to win the UEFA Super Cup five times, but Italian tacticians won 13 editions of this trophy.
He had warned it was not going to be an easy task against Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta in Warsaw and for an hour it was a surprisingly even match, with Thibaut Courtois making a remarkable fingertip save on the Mario Pasalic looping header.
Moments later, Federico Valverde tapped in the opening goal from close range, followed soon after by Kylian Mbappé scoring on his debut.
Ancelotti can’t stop setting records
It means Ancelotti sets yet another record, this time as the first coach ever to win the UEFA Super Cup five times, leaving Pep Guardiola behind on four.
The first two were achieved on the Milan bench in 2003 and 2007, then Real Madrid in 2014, 2022 and 2024.
Real Madrid are the first club to win the European Super Cup on six occasions.
Curiously, because both Gasperini and Ancelotti are Italian, it means that even before kick-off it was already known that a tactician from the Peninsula would be victorious.
It confirms their astonishing record in the competition, as Italian managers have won 13 editions of the Super Cup, comfortably better than the next nation down, as Spain won 10.
Ancelotti is already the only coach to ever win all five top European League titles, and the Champions League five times.

Look fwd to Gasperini’s excuses, such a sore loser as always. One Europa League trophy & getting qualified to CL few times don’t make him on the same level with Ancelotti.
