Carlo Ancelotti commented on Napoli’s strong work in the summer transfer window and the explosive start of Georgian talent Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The 21-year-old winger has immediately found his footing in Serie A following his arrival in Campania in the summer, winning over his new fans straight out the gate. Kvaratskhelia has scored five goals and provided two assists in his first eight league games, being the symbolic figure of a rejuvenated Napoli side.
Speaking to Rai Sport, Ancelotti discussed Napoli’s impressive start to the season and the qualities of Kvaratskhelia.
“Napoli have picked up some very good players, refreshing the air. It is difficult to predict today what they can do, certainly the new arrivals have made the team unpredictable.
“Kvaratskhelia the surprise? For those who didn’t know him, we were already following him when I was at Napoli. He is a special player.”
Ancelotti spent 18 months with Napoli from May 2018 to December 2019, replacing Maurizio Sarri in the Campania capital. It wasn’t the most positive spell of his coaching career and two weeks later he joined Everton.
During that period, Kvaratskhelia was plying his trade in Georgia with Rustavi before he joined Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow on loan in February 2019, spending five months in the capital before he joined Rubin Kazan on a permanent deal that summer.
