Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is unimpressed by the Merengues’ fixture list: ‘It makes no sense, somebody must wake up.’

The La Liga giants have already played five games since the beginning of the year, including two in the Spanish Supercopa Final Four in Saudi Arabia.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side made it to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals but needed extra time to beat Elche.

The former Milan, Chelsea and PSG coach was asked his thoughts on the fixture list at the end of the match and offered a pretty straightforward reply.

“What do I have to say?”

“The fixture list makes no sense, that’s all. Inevitably it must change. Hopefully, those in charge of it will wake up and make a fairer fixture list for everybody.”

The 62-year-old is not the only coach to complain about the current organization of matches around Europe.

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri did the same during today’s press conference ahead of the Biancocelesti clash with Atalanta.

Sarri is also against the abolition of the away rule, which will see more games go to extra time.

“The number of games is increasing, but with the hypocrisy of the Financial Fair Play and a limited number of players per team,” Sarri said.

“They should at least give us the chance to have 30 players in the squad to cope with so many matches.”
