Ancelotti: ‘Serie A more competitive’

Napoli Coach Carlo Ancelotti believes “the competitiveness of the league” has increased, as his side and Inter look to challenge Juventus.

The Bianconeri lead Serie A by six points after seven Scudetti in a row, but the Partenopei are locked on 22 points along with Luciano Spalletti’s side.

“There are several teams aiming to get closer to Juventus,” Ancelotti noted in his Press conference ahead of the Empoli match.

“Inter have had a positive run, they’re closer like we are and that can’t do anything but increase the competitiveness of the league.

Milan are getting closer now too, as per the initial predictions. The more competition there is, the lower the Scudetto quota.

“I don’t think the responsibility weighs on the squad, they already felt it and they want to fight to the end.

“We can make the first assessments after the first half of the season has been played. The fixture list has been difficult for us so far, but then nothing is certain because the smaller teams have taken points.

“Spal won at Roma, Parma beat Inter in Milan – every team can cause you problems.”

Napoli face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, could Lorenzo Insigne be rested for that?

“No, not to rest him. If there’s rotation it’ll be to face this game with fresh players, not to let anyone rest.

“We can’t think about the next game, we have to do well in this one.

“Every game has pitfalls, such as the risk of the concentration not being as high as it could be, but in training the squad has given me confidence in that regard.

“We’re in a good period, we’re in good shape mentally and physically and we want to play this match at the same level as recent ones.

“Is this ‘my Napoli’ now? I never like to say ‘my Napoli’, because then if you play badly it’s not your Napoli anymore… so many Coaches say that.

“The level of our play satisfies me, I can’t hide that, but there are always pitfalls just around the corner.

“Football is like that, good periods can become difficult in an instant and vice-versa.

“There were a few mistakes in the last two matches, where we played well, that can be avoided with greater application.

“Playing that well isn’t easy, so when you do play that well you need to get the result.”
