Carlo Ancelotti agrees with José Mourinho that ‘only a madman’ would leave Real Madrid and claims his bond with the Special One is stronger ‘thanks to Roma.’

Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are set to meet Napoli in a Champions League group-stage game on Wednesday night, but the future of the Italian tactician remains a relevant talking point.

Ancelotti’s contract at the Bernabeu runs out in the summer while Brazil have made him the leading candidate to take over the Seleçao in 2024.

Roma boss Mourinho had said he would not leave Madrid if he were Ancelotti and the Italian tactician agreed.

“I am a Mourinhista and we have a great relationship,” Ancelotti told Dsport as quoted by TMW.

“The bond has gotten stronger thanks to Roma. I used to be the Roma captain, which was a fantastic moment of my life. I agree with him, only a madman would leave Madrid.

“I am in no rush and I am happy and focused on the next games, I try to give my best,” added Ancelotti.

The Italian tactician also spoke about the packed fixture list for clubs and players, predicting that the situation won’t improve in the future.

“We can’t choose, UEFA and FIFA are in charge and they must realise what’s going on,” he said.

“Things won’t improve in the future. On the contrary, they’ll get worse because there will be a Club World Cup and a Champions League with more games. A strong Football Players’ Union could be the key to changing this situation. Footballers are the most important part of the game and when they aren’t there, we lose an important part of the show.”

Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid in 2021, signing a three-year contract. He has won the Champions League twice as the Merengues coach, the first time in 2014 and the second in 2022.
