Carlo Ancelotti has suggested that this stint with Real Madrid might be his last before retirement, although he did drop a hint about the Canadian national team.

The 62-year-old Italian coach made history following the confirmation of Real Madrid’s La Liga title, becoming the first coach to win all of Europe’s top five leagues. The former Milan and Napoli coach also became the first coach to take part in the Champions League semi-finals in four separate decades, an incredible sign of longevity.

Speaking to Prime Video ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Manchester City, Ancelotti first discussed his plans for the future.

“After Real Madrid yes, I will probably retire. But if Real keep me here for ten years, I will coach for ten years. I would like to be with my grandchildren, go on holiday with my wife, there are so many things to do that I have left out and that I would like to do. To go to many places I’ve never been.

“I’ve never been to Australia. I’ve never been to Rio de Janeiro. Visit my sister more often. Unfortunately, you can’t do everything, so the day I stop, I’ll have all these things to do.”

He then touched on the possibility of one day coaching an international team.

“Yes, there could be a national team, but it’s too early now. Certainly not for this World Cup. The 2026 one, why not? It could be. If it’s Canada, why not? I’d like that, of course. Canada has done very well.”

The 62-year-old Ancelotti is hoping to pick up his fourth Champions League title this season, but first he’ll have to overcome Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who took a 4-3 lead at home in the first leg.

  1. He always said he didn’t want national team because he wanted to coach day to day now he wants to spend more time doing things and maybe retire and Canada national team? Could have coached Italy but nope he won’t take that on

  2. I could see him become the coach of the Canadian national team cause there’s no pressure and his wife is Canadian. Who knows what he’ll do after RM.
