Carlo Ancelotti confirms that Real Madrid snubbed the Ballon d’Or ceremony in October because they thought Vini was the winner.

Real Madrid and City meet in the Champions League knockout playoff this evening.

The Premier League giants will be without the injured Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or ahead of Vini Jr.

Real Madrid caused controversy by not attending the ceremony in Paris, and Ancelotti discussed the matter at a press conference on Monday.

“I don’t think it was the wrong decision,” the Italian tactician said via BBC.

“We thought Vini was the winner of the Ballon d’Or. It doesn’t mean we don’t respect Rodri because he is a fantastic player. I think Rodri deserved to win it the year before.”
