The President of the Brazilian FA, Ednaldo Rodrigues, has insisted that Carlo Ancelotti is still the federation’s ‘Plan A’ to take over the vacant position as coach of the Selecao.

Brazil’s courtship of Ancelotti has been widely documented ever since the five-time World Cup winners parted company with previous incumbent Tite in December after the disappointment of Qatar.

Speaking in an interview with Rede Bandeirantes on Brazilian television recently, Rodrigues said that whilst there are plenty of decent coaches from South America, Ancelotti is the one who seems to be the best fit for the current squad of players.

“Brazil has several competent coaches that we respect a lot, but we have a plan A, and it is Ancelotti,” Rodrigues said in his interview.

“We have the feeling that it will work. I think he has chemistry with the Brazilian national team. He knows most of the players who have played and currently play for the national team and he is a fan of Brazilian football.”

Ancelotti will be particularly familiar with Brazil’s crop of current Real Madrid players Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo and Eder Militao, as well as having coached the likes of Casemiro, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Richarlison from previous spells, including those with Paris Saint-Germain and Everton.

If Rodrigues isn’t able to land his dream target, reports suggest that attention will instead turn to Dorival Junior, Abel Ferreira or Fernando Diniz, all of who are currency coaching in the Brazilian Serie A with Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Fluminese respectively.
