Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti feels the European Court of Justice’s ruling on UEFA and FIFA’s monopoly will be ‘positive’ for all clubs.

The ECJ said on Thursday that FIFA and UEFA can’t sanction clubs and players attending tournaments outside their rules, so they are ‘abusing a dominant position.’

This doesn’t necessarily mean the Super League will be immediately created, but it surely gives more powers to organisers.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are still formally involved in the competition, and the Merengues’ coach, Ancelotti, showed satisfaction with the ECJ decision.

“It was an important decision for all the clubs,” he said at a press conference on Thursday, following a 1-0 win over Alaves.

“Some are not convinced, but I think this is going to be positive for everyone that there will no longer be a monopoly and the fixture list can improve. Time will tell if it’s positive, I think in the end, it will be positive for everyone.”

Real Madrid and Barcelona are obviously among the clubs strongly backing the creation of a new European tournament, but they haven’t received much support from other European sides.

Roma and Inter are among the Serie A clubs opposing the project, but the critics also include Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
