Attempts to bring Carlo Ancelotti back to Milan this summer ‘weren’t hopeless’, according to Vice-President Adriano Galliani.

The former Rossoneri boss was courted by the club early in the summer before deciding against a return, resulting in the arrival of Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The 71-year-old spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the hiring of their new Coach, as well as the new structure in place after Bee Taechaubol arrives.

"My trip to Madrid was not hopeless, Ancelotti was very tempted to return to Milan,” Galliani said.

"My trip to Madrid was not hopeless, Ancelotti was very tempted to return to Milan,” Galliani said.

“The main cause of the refusal was the operation that he underwent and that is forcing him to still be out for another two months.

“Mihajlovic, however, had already been identified. The choice of Mihailovic is a signal of discontinuity with the recent past.

“He has all the characteristics you need today at Milanello and he reminds me of Fabio Capello.

“Unai Emery? He was strongly in contention a year ago.

“Double owners? The new structure has been decided by Silvio Berlusconi. We accepted it first though and then it was shared.

“In my case, yes it was a little hard to accept.  But now we are in full agreement.

“Redundancy pay is a malicious thing. I’m not an employee of Milan, but an administrator. And an administrator has no redundancy pay when he leaves.

“I’d like a happy season for Milan and to qualify for the Champions League.”
