Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat remains on the list of players wanted by Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, as his brother and agent warns he is ‘not going to trade Italy for the middle bracket of the Premier League.’

The Morocco international is on the transfer market and the asking price is set at €30m, as his contract with the Viola is running down, although the Tuscans do have an option to extend for another year.

A move to Barcelona collapsed in January because they were only prepared to take him on loan with an option to buy, while now Manchester United are focusing on Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana and getting a striker before facing the midfield issue.

“He wants to go to the top, you are not going to trade Italy for the middle bracket of the Premier League,” Nordin Amrabat told ESPN.

“At Barcelona, he is high on the list, but you know Barca’s financial situation.”

Atletico Madrid have also been heavily linked with a potential bid for Amrabat, although again the €30m price-tag is causing problems.

“Of course you never know, it will be a strong competition when you see which names are going. But my brother now has the intention to play in the top, preferably in Spain or England, I think.

“Ten Hag is now looking for a striker, he wants that first. From there he will see what is possible. But I know that Ten Hag is charmed by my brother, he broke through under him and they have a good relationship, so who knows.”

Amrabat played 50 competitive matches under Ten Hag at FC Utrecht from 2015 to 2017.

Although he is a Morocco international, Amrabat – who turns 27 next month – was born and raised in the Netherlands.
