Verona President Maurizio Setti is in talks to sell the club to an American fund and according to reports in Italy, the potential new owners want to replace Marco Baroni with Daniele De Rossi.

Verona had a great start to the season, beating Empoli and Roma in the first two Serie A rounds but haven’t won a league game since August 26 and are currently in the relegation zone with 10 points in 14 matches.

Coach Baroni has been under pressure for several weeks and hasn’t yet been fired merely because President Setti is in advanced talks to sell the club to an unnamed American group.

According to Tuttosport, negotiations are ongoing through Deutsche Bank, and the parties involved in the deal could reach an agreement in the coming days for approximately €120m.

USA Pacific Media Group had previously been linked with purchasing a majority stake in Verona.

According to Calciomercato.com, a final decision on Baroni’s future will be made at the end of negotiations between Setti and the American fund interested in buying the club.

The report claims American owners would immediately part ways with Baroni to hire Roma and Italy legend Daniele De Rossi if the takeover happens.

The former midfielder was one of Roberto Mancini’s assistants during Euro 2020 and was appointed by Serie B SPAL in October 2022, but was sacked after 17 games.
