Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini explains why selling the Rossoneri would be a real deal for Elliott and names two players Investcorp should sign to strengthen the team next season.

The Bahrain-based fund is in exclusive talks with Elliott over a potential takeover of the Serie A club worth €1.1 billion. Negotiations have recently begun and will continue for two more weeks, reports in Italy claim.

“If the figures are those that I am reading, then Elliott is about to make a big deal, gaining €150m in a short period of time. In my opinion, it’s a great operation,” Ambrosini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Today, Milan are a club with balanced books and are competitive again. They are in the race for the title and are back in the Champions League after many years. I hope that the guarantees offered by Investcorp to the current owners go in this direction and that they’ll be able to finance a growing process.

“Elliott has chosen the right men. Maldini and Massara have built a competitive team. Pioli has guided the group with clear ideas. It’s hard to think that new owners won’t introduce someone they can refer to, but I think they should also confirm the current team.”

La Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport reported this morning that neither Maldini nor Massara are expected to leave if Investcorp completes the club’s takeover. However, Ivan Gazidis could walk out of the club and be replaced by a new director close to the new owners.

“An investment fund works to give value to every asset, of course, they will try to increase their value also in terms of results,” said Ambrosini who also commented on Milan’s possible transfer strategies under new ownership.

Nkunku, Haller and Zaniolo: Milan’s new transfer targets under Investcorp

Investcorp is reportedly planning to give Maldini and Massara a transfer budget in the region of €300m for the summer. Many exciting players have been linked with a move to Milan, including Christopher Nkunku and Sébastien Haller, scorer of 33 goals in 38 appearances with Ajax this season.

“Milan don’t need revolutions. There’s a solid base that must be strengthened in the areas of the pitch, where Milan have suffered more,” said Ambrosini. “A right winger, an attacking midfielder and a striker.

Any suggestion?

“Darwin Nunez of Benfica, but it depends on how much they can invest. Leipzig’s Nkunku is another exciting prospect.”
