Former Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini believes his old club and Inter are going ‘beyond expectations’ in the transfer market.

The Nerazzurri have secured the signatures of Miranda, Jeison Murillo and Geoffrey Kondogbia, while their city rivals look ready to confirm Andrea Bertolucci and Carlos Bacca.

“They [Milan and Inter] are making major investments, for top players,” Ambrosini told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The latest moves suggest Milan can get back on the right track. It’s sad to see Milan, and also Inter, in this way – out of contention.

“Milan and Inter are going beyond all expectations, it’s a sign that they've understood that some investments have to be made to rise again.

“Kondobgia intrigues me, not just for how much he cost. He can make Inter more physical and muscular. I want to see where [Coach Roberto] Mancini will play him.

“For me, he could definitely make their midfield better, but we have to see how he’ll adapt to Serie A, which is not easy.

“As for Milan, I’m an admirer of Bertolacci. Working with [Genoa Coach Gian Piero] Gasperini has served him well, because with Gasp you have to score and restart play.

“He’s become good in the final third as well, so he can also play as an attacking midfielder.”
