Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini believes Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy is not the only one responsible for Karim Benzema’s third goal last night: ‘Antonio Rudiger should have done more.’

The France striker put in another incredible performance at Stamford Bridge yesterday, scoring three goals against Chelsea in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

His third goal was somehow similar to the one he had netted last month against PSG when he pressed Gigio Donnarumma, forcing him to make a mistake that led to the striker’s equaliser.

Many have seen similarities between the Italy international’s error and the one of Mendy last night. However, Milan legend Ambrosini refused only to blame the Senegal international, who has been among the best goalkeepers in the world during the last year.

“Rudiger was too sloppy. To me, he should have been tougher on the ball. He tried to win it with his left foot,” Ambrosini said during the live commentary on Prime Video Italia.

“Mendy made the most serious error, but Rudiger could have made up for it.”

The Germany international has been linked with a return to Italy in the summer as he is unlikely to extend his expiring contract with Chelsea. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported in March that his move to Juventus is almost a done deal, but his agent was recently spotted in Barcelona for a meeting with the Catalans’ director.

Ambrosini spent almost his entire playing career at Milan, winning the Champions League twice, in 2003 and 2007, with Carlo Ancelotti in charge.

  1. I understand that Ambrosini is a former Italian player but this really has nothing to do with Italian football at all, does it? or are you just going to post every opinion of his from now on?

  2. I agree @TIM.

This page is running out of Calciorelated news, as so many articles are about Premier League, La Liga and so on.

  3. Any writer here? I am thinking about building a new site for Italian football only, its not too hard nowadays. The problem is I am not living in Italy and not that good at writing. Agree with Geo, better cover about Serie B teams and players too.
