Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini admits the thigh strain took him by surprise. “I didn't expect such a long lay-off.”

The veteran midfielder was ruled out for two months with the muscular injury, joining teammate Andrea Pirlo on the treatment table.

“I feel fairly good, but still cannot give an accurate date for my return to the playing field,” Ambro told Milan Channel.

“We are evaluating it day by day with the medical staff, as it is a rather unusual type of injury, so we have to be very careful.
