The Paris Saint-Germain full-back expressed sympathy for the Fiorentina defender’s family after his sudden death on Sunday but also declared “in this world thousands of children die every day for different reasons without this much attention being paid”.

That was seen as insensitive by some, with Mario Balotelli agreeing with the Brazilian’s sentiment but “you cannot make those comments when faced with someone’s death”.

Today Dani Alves has responded to Super Mario’s comments, offering a partial apology for his words.

“If that’s what Balotellinho said I wasn’t trying to offend anyone,” the former Juventus right-back wrote on his Twitter account.

“We live in a world where you often have to be hypocritical to be appreciated by people. Anyway, if anyone was offended then I apologise.”
