Sao Paulo and Brazil right-back Dani Alves has revealed that he could have returned to Juventus over the summer.

Alves left Paris Saint-Germain in July after his contract expired, and the 36-year-old suggested he would have re-joined Juve if they had offered him a long-term contract.

“I want to play at the 2022 World Cup, and to do that I have to play as much as possible,” he told The Players’ Tribune.

“I could’ve returned to Juve, as well as Barcelona, but I wanted guarantees.

“Moving to Sao Paulo was one of the few options I had left after my contract with PSG expired.

“Several clubs looked at me over the summer, but no-one was willing to offer me a multi-year contract.”

The former Barcelona defender won a domestic double with the Bianconeri during the 2016-17 campaign but has since expressed regret about making the move.

He ended up going back to Brazil with Sao Paulo and will be 39 by the time of the next World Cup.
