Ricardo Alvarez’s agent insists his client is a free agent following a dispute between Inter and Sunderland.

The English side took the creative midfielder on loan last season, with a mandatory buyout clause of €10.5m if they avoided relegation.

The Black Cats did indeed stay up, but then refused to pay the buy-out clause, because Alvarez had a knee injury which later required surgery.

The Nerazzurri have requested FIFA arbitration, but the player’s agent believes his client is now free to continue his career in his native Argentina.

“He’s a free agent,” Marcelo Simonian explained in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.

“That’s from Inter and Sunderland. Inter transferred him to Sunderland who didn’t take up their right to buy him, so now we’re free.

“There’s nothing in Europe at the moment, so he’ll probably play in Argentina.”
