“I was really happy in Florence and want to salute the fans, as I still follow their progress from afar,” Alonso told Tuttomercatoweb during Chelsea’s summer tour.

“I wish them the best for the new season, but it’s hard to tell what’s happening. Even when I was there, nobody knew what was going on, so I imagine it’s even worse now…

“I think the players must try to concentrate exclusively on the field, then the construction of the squad is something the directors are meant to be taking care of.”

Alonso won the Premier League title with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and they now enter the Champions League.

“We are working hard in pre-season to ensure we’re ready, as soon the competitive games are coming up. We must try to go all the way in every tournament.

“We are Chelsea, so we are obliged to fight it out in every competition. We hope to have a great season.”
