Cristiano Giuntoli called it a ‘truly incredible feeling’ to join Juventus, having signed a five-year contract as their new sporting director.
The 51-year-old spent the last eight years with rivals Napoli, who he helped win their first Scudetto in 33 years last season, with his transfer market work playing a crucial role.
In the final stages of the season, Giuntoli made it clear that he wanted to become Juventus’ new sporting director, and after multiple frosty meetings with president Aurelio De Laurentiis, he agreed to terminate his contract a year early.
Speaking to Juventus’ media department, Giuntoli was first asked about his emotions following the move to Turin.
“They were incredible, almost indescribable. For a child like me who left Prato by coach and made the eight-hour journey to see Juventus, it’s a source of great satisfaction and truly incredible feeling.”
He recalled his thoughts in the early stages of his time with Juventus.
“To my dad, who was a big Juventus fan and instilled Juventus in me from an early age. For this on one hand I thank him, albeit with that hint of melancholy that I will always carry with me.”
The sporting director described the Bianconeri in two words.
“Fascinating and ambitious.”
He was also asked to describe himself in the role.
“Difficult to talk about oneself, we always have to work harder than others. Then if we do it even better time will tell, but I will certainly be a great worker.”
Finally, Giuntoli discussed what kind of Juventus he wants to set up.
“We all have to put aside the ‘I’ and think as ‘we’, I’d like to put together many heads with one heart.”
