The former midfielder is currently in charge of Banfield in Argentina, but has his sights set on Serie A.
“Since I started my coaching career, my dream has been to become Coach of Lazio,” Almeyda told Radio Ies.
“I will certainly return to Rome to be Coach of the Biancocelesti and win the Scudetto. Lazio remained in my heart, it is my second home.”
Almeyda played for the Aquile from 1997 to 2000, going on to wear the Serie A jerseys of Parma, Inter and Brescia.
He retired in 2011 and immediately became Coach of River Plate, then switched to Banfield in 2013.
