Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs says Inter ‘can’t afford’ winger Ivan Perisic, even after Xherdan Shaqiri’s departure.

Shaqiri is on the verge of completing a €17m move to Stoke City, a deal which it was thought would fee up funds for the Croatian winger.

Wolfsburg are believed to be asking for around €20m for Perisic, who has already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.

Wolfsburg are believed to be asking for around €20m for Perisic, who has already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.

However, the German club’s sporting director has seemingly closed the door on a transfer, insisting the Beneamata can’t afford 26-year-old.

“The club which is interested can't afford him,” Allofs told Kicker.

“Nothing fits.”

The website speculates that the firm stance could be a problem for Die Wolfe, with Perisic likely to demand an increase in salary to match Inter’s offer if he is to stay in the Bundesliga.
