Max Allegri insists he would not have changed the Juventus approach and his team ‘played well’ in the Champions League, but Villarreal ‘put nine men behind the ball’ in their 3-0 victory.

The Bianconeri crashed out of the Champions League in the Round of 16 for the third year running, but this was if anything even worse than the previous two, which came on away goals.

Instead, Juve didn’t take their chances and then collapsed completely in the final 15 minutes with three entirely avoidable goals, including two penalties and a tap-in from a corner.

“I would play it the same way, as the lads did well for 65 minutes. At a certain point, Villarreal put everyone in defence and only an incident could break that deadlock,” Allegri told Amazon Prime Italia.

“We have to accept this defeat, it’s ugly, but I cannot complain about the lads, as they played well.”

Allegri seemed irritated with someone after the final whistle, though not Villarreal coach Unai Emery, so who was he annoyed at?

“I wasn’t angry with anyone. I congratulate Emery, as he had the right approach, it was one of his usual games. Look, let’s move on, controversy won’t help anyone.

“This is football, sometimes they go in your favour, sometimes against you, it’s just about accepting that.”

Allegri was again asked if he should not have been more aggressive, more pro-active and more attack-minded, but continued to stick to his guns.

“We tried to move the ball around, Villarreal had nine men behind the ball and didn’t even try to counter at one stage.

“We had our chances in the first half, they were aiming to either take this to extra time or make the most of incidents. We were naïve on the penalty, then rather than turning it around, we conceded another two goals and lost control of the match.”

  1. Get the hell out of this club!!! Can’t watch you and your horrible football anymore !!! If you had some decency you would resign today.

  2. Allegri, you are dangerous man. Those kind of coach should never been allowed to keep working. Not only for Juventus, but for any team of any division

  3. Same old negative Allegri! Juve will continue to stutter unless they have a positive manager who wants players to attack. Bring back Pirlo and let him inject some style and identity into this team. Oh and the Keeper has need to go for the last 3 seasons. Kepa would be ideal!

  4. I came here to read his resignation and not this. I can not believe this guy getting paid $9 mil a year, what the hell Juve management? Pirlo, was much better than him for god sake, and only on $2 mil or bit more.

  5. Well saied, very clever man our Allegri, he maybe also can make some coments why we will drop again next season? Very clever man, he knows everything very clear, wow

  6. theres no way hes the coach next season.
juve dont deserve to be in CL next season…total embarrasment to all of Serie A

  7. Total Italian sports can’t complete the European competition name sports this only sports they succeed but last fifteen they lowest point

  8. I would let Tek go, and I would NOT renew anyone on expiring contracts aside from Cuadrado. I would try and move McKennie for Zaniolo + small fee, sign Joao Felix, Susic and Pogba. Sell Rabiot.

    Ruediger-Bonucci-De Ligt-L Pellegrini
    Pogba-Locatelli
    Zaniolo-Joao Felix-Chiesa
    Vlahovic

    Danilo-Rugani-Demiral-Calafiori
    Rabiot-Susic-Fagioli
    Kharvatshkelia-Kaio Jorge-Cuadrado

  9. Love this, but of course Allegri fanboys like El Cid will put the blame on somebody else.

Hopefully we crashed out of Coppa too, I am wishing for trophyless season.

This disgusting team should be destroyed in all fronts.

    Forza Juve!

  10. LOL what a football terrorist! So stubborn that cannot even accept his own mistakes.

Emery pwned Allegri hard this night. He made the subs first and took charge of the game.

  11. We should’ve expect these kind of humiliations when agnelli appoint this guy. Losing 0-3 at home against villareal is nothing to do with lucky.

The way we play, it would be 0-5 or more if we are up against Munich or City or Liverpool.

  12. This team has so little quality. The midfield and wingers are a joke.
Alegri plays defensive football and it is boring as hell in serie A, but at least they get a few points. In Europe, e get boring football AND a 3-0 defeat to a small Spanish team. Time for Alegri to go. 9 million salary for this?!
COMPLETE REBUILD with a NEW COACH

  13. Poor Juve, after buying every young talent in the league they still crashed out. Who’s next Samacca,Respadori,Osimhen, please help us : We actually lost, again.
No just outplayed again by a hungrier team and clever coach.
Thankfully games are won and lost on the pitch and not the boardroom, but they never learn , just throw more $$ at players with little heart or guts.

  14. Just a quck reminder this guy earns 9 million net every year. Thats around 14-15 million before tax.

When he gets sacked he can start a modelling career with Nedved and Agnelli.

  15. It wasn’t Rugani’s fault. That wouldn’t never happened to a left footed center back and Rugani is right footed.

Quick analysis…Rugani, De Ligt, Bonucci right footed center backs! Chiellini is the only left footed center back and he is to old and always injured (3/4 right footed).

    Bad sports director since Marotta!!

  16. Allegri is a genius. I bet Pep, Tuchel and Klopp must have been studying this 1mph football.

  17. Stay strong, Allegri

If Nedved is still here, you can be here too

Nothing can bring you down! 3.5 years left on your contract

Go out there and own it, tiger!

  18. That penalty wouldn’t have been given against Juventus in Serie A since they cheat but luckily it was given in the champions league! Karma! Juventus will NEVER win champions league! They can’t cheat, they can’t win.

  19. Need to buy aron ramseyband give him 12 milions 5 year contract now and and super defender rudiger for 7 millions and we will be champions in serie a! Champions league is just for some drama and never need to take it seriaously, we just have to pay good salarys for players qnd they all will be happy to have this job

  20. I don’t get why Juve are mad. In this match they created more in one match than they’ve done in a month in the league. But they paid the price for it now Juve will have respect to Inter who creates chances on avarage about 10 time more per match than Juve have created this season. Juve only hope is to sit deep and hope for the best by scoring a lucky goal. If Juve concede a goal first it’s a near impossible job to overturn and Allegri knows it. I don’t get why people are surprised anymore Juve would’ve only won the match by penalties but they can look at this loss as a good thing because other bigger sides would destroy this Juve team. By the way now Juve will probably win the league having only serie a to focus upon

  21. This type of comment from Allegri is precisely why this backward thinking club never goes beyond the last 16 and will never win that tournament. It is one thing to play Italian in Italy, but to do this on the biggest stage forget it. They are too predictable, slow, one dimensional, static and complacent. 3 years left to see more of the sideshow.

  22. @solointer a juve fan in disguise? Deluded to think the slightest that your team with such frail mentality are capable of winning anything. Milan has got this, 9 finals to go!

  23. Why are so many people surprised? Villarreal is a better team with better players and a superiour coach. This is Allegri-footy. And that won’t change no matter what.

  24. @Chris nah.. being in Super League with elites like Barca, Madrid or any English clubs would be too hard for this joke club. Poor ol’ lady will get destroyed every week until they regret their own existence and disband themselves.
