Massimiliano Allegri can become the first coach to win the Coppa Italia five times, overtaking Roberto Mancini and Sven Goran Eriksson.
Juventus will visit Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals. The Bianconeri won the first leg in Turin 2-0.
The Coppa Italia is the last chance Allegri has to win a trophy at Juventus this season, the first since his return to the club in 2021.
Allegri targets Coppa Italia history with Juventus
Allegri has already won the Coppa Italia four times, as many as Mancini and Eriksson. Therefore, as reported by Gazzetta, if the Bianconeri lift the trophy this term, he will become the most successful coach in the competition.
Allegri has already reached the Coppa Italia Finals five times, losing only once to Inter in 2022.
The Livorno-born coach had won 11 trophies in his first five years at the Allianz Stadium but finished the last two seasons empty-handed.
The Italian tactician spoke at a pre-match press conference on Monday, urging his players to be ambitious against Lazio tomorrow.
What Allegri said about the Coppa Italia and Juventus’ season
“At the start of the season, we had two targets: the Coppa Italia and finishing in the top four,” he said.
“There’s still a long way to go, and there are many games against direct opponents [in Serie A]. Tomorrow, we will understand if we are good enough to reach the final or not quite.
“I always say that the target is to get the best result. That’s what we must focus on and why we work,” noted Allegri.
“In this last month, cup and league winners are determined. We are still there, and it’s the most important moment; we haven’t yet reached the Champions League or the Coppa Italia Final.”
