The midfielder was one of a number of players to leave San Siro at the start of this summer and this week offered his insight into why he turned down a one-year contract extension in order to depart.
However, Allegri has hit back and suggested that Gattuso’s words are not conducive to the Rossoneri’s season preparations.
“Speaking of things of the past, feeding the controversy, is of little use,” the tactician reflected on Rtl 102.5.
“I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach this dressing room for two years, I’ve won a League title and a Supercoppa and for me that is very important.
“Then, unfortunately choices were made, but we must look forward and not back.”
Allegri is preparing for the new campaign with a new-look squad, having lost a number of players.
“10 champions have left, 10 players who made the history of Milan, as Zlatan Ibrhahimovic and Thiago Silva are champions.
“The team is working well, however, and there are many talented young people here. Then, we will wait and see on August 31, but there are young people developing, we are waiting the return of Alexandre Pato and I am confident in the work the players and the club are doing.”
The Coach then offered some support for colleague Antonio Conte, who is facing a lengthy absence from the touchline next season through suspension.
“This is definitely a difficult situation and I hope that it resolves best for him and for all those who are involved in it.”
