Max Allegri explains how he gets the best out of Alvaro Morata after the brace in a 3-1 win away to Sampdoria and why Adrien Rabiot feels like a flop at Juventus.

The Bianconeri did just enough at Marassi to secure the three points, going 2-0 up without a single shot on target from open play thanks to a Maya Yoshida own goal and Morata penalty.

After Wojciech Szczesny saved an Antonio Candreva spot-kick and Abdelhamid Sabiri’s free kick was deflected in, but Morata’s header sealed the scoreline.

Serie A | Sampdoria 1-3 Juventus: Morata clinical at Marassi

“Alvaro is one of the best forwards on a technical level in Europe. He will struggle more if you use him with his back to goal. If he plays a little wider, with the space to run inside and use his characteristics, he’s excellent,” Allegri told DAZN.

“The team did well on a technical level today. We need to improve when we’re in control of the match, lower the tempo and then speed it up with a vertical pass to close it. We need to understand when it’s time to be patient and wait a moment.

“Sampdoria are not an easy team to face, we needed this result to consolidate fourth place and prepare for Villarreal in the best way.”

Moise Kean started instead of Dusan Vlahovic, so did he make enough of an impact?

“Kean did well, he earned the penalty, sparked the move for the first goal, so he is an important player for this squad. Naturally, he is young and still needs to improve, especially his touch and control, but can be devastating when he has space to run into.”

Rabiot gave away the penalty and was fortunate not to receive a second yellow card, so are Juventus fans right to consider him a flop?

“He gives the feeling he can score 10 goals, but he hardly ever does. He needs to feel more freedom and be more effective upfront.”

Allegri continues to maintain Juventus are not in the Scudetto race, but they are currently four points off top spot, admittedly with an extra game played.

He was asked if it was more likely that Juventus will win the title or Paulo Dybala extend his contract?

“I don’t know. Paulo is discussing it with the club, we hope to have him available on Wednesday.”

7 thought on “Allegri on Juventus getting best out of Morata and Rabiot”
  1. I was in the stadium and saw Juve Spezia.
I saw a team that played football of another decade. Allegro is coach that can Keep up with his era… Rabiot was the only footballer on the pitch that was doing everything wrong and in wrong timing.
Something last, every team in serie A has invest in stuff that make teams run and keep playing till last minute.
Juventus invested in Allegri and his old-fashioned way of playing. I can’t see how Juve can play football of this decade..

  2. Juve is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring to watch. They are at least 5 years behind the elite teams of Europe!!!!

  3. Juve don’t need to follow like sheep and play “modern football” just because it’s the fashion. If they can win playing “old football”, it’s still good.

  4. This article says it all 2-0:up in the first half with out a single shot on goal in open play this is same in most games Milan 0-0 no shots last week spezia Allegri Flintstine says tough game actually could easily could have been a draw of a loss

  5. Juventus are not even 5 yrs behind the best and most prestigious clubs in Europe. Nobody was playing slow ball 5 years ago just Juventus since 1897. They are simply not in the A bracket of the elite. Juventus is a big club and the largest within their own 4 walls, but in Europe they have an abysmal record of failure. The 7/9 European and CL final losers have the record for biggest chokers ever. 2 CL titles compared to Real Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool etc puts them in the B column. At least they are ahead of Arsenal and the other loser club of North London called Spuds.

  6. The past two seasons we brought in two coaches that tried to change the style of the play and the results were abysmal. Under Pirlo we barely qualified for the CL, Under Sarri we had a descent squad to go deep in the CL and got knocked out by Lyon. Everyone likes a winning team. When Allegri took this team in his hands they were a team that was very low morale and low on confidence. Loosing Ronaldo also shook the team. I think he worked miracles throughout the season with the resources he had. Going by what you guys are saying then why hasn’t Man City won the CL or PSG?? They had and have some of the best players/coaches over the years and what have they done? Juve at least went to two CL finals and we did not have any star players. So please guys give me a brake. If you don’t like the style then support a different team.
