Massimiliano Allegri searched for the positives after Juventus’ disappointing 1-1 draw with Genoa, claiming he was ‘happy with the performance’.

The Bianconeri took an early 1-0 lead at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after Federico Chiesa comfortably netted from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. Their advantage didn’t last long, however, as Albert Gudmundsson found an equaliser for the home side just minutes into the second half.

The draw means Juventus are now at risk of slipping to five points behind league leaders Inter, who’ll be hoping to snatch all three points in their Sunday evening match with Lazio.

Speaking to DAZN via TMW after the match, Allegri first discussed the difficulties Juventus faced in their draw with Genoa.

“It wasn’t easy to play against this Genoa, the team gave a good performance. But we need to grow because to stay on top, we need to capitalize and be more effective.

“When you have to kill the opponent, it has to be done, when you have important chances, you have to score.

“It’s an important point, let’s continue the positive streak, and now we have to prepare for Frosinone. I’m happy with the performance.”

He was asked if he was displeased with the decisions of referee Davide Massa.

“The referee was good, I’m happy. I never make judgements, it’s not part of my job. In all matches there are similar moments that are evaluated in one way or another.

“It’s difficult to have a single guideline because the incident is subjective. If we get into subjective stuff, I said it seven years ago, it becomes a problem.”

He was then asked if the problem was a lack of uniformity amongst officials.

“It’s normal that there isn’t any because they are subjective cases. It’s not offside, it’s old stuff and I said it years ago. The referees are good, they referee well, and they should be left to referee.”

The Juventus coach commented on the absence of midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

“Whoever replaced him played a good game, as did the whole team. We had situations that we had to exploit, but our path must move forward, we must work calmly and look beyond.”

Finally, Allegri discussed the call to let Chiesa take the penalty.

“Vlahovic gave the ball to Chiesa, you can see he wasn’t calm after the missed penalties. But even today he played a good game, he must stay calm, even today he made himself available and must continue to work.”
