Massimiliano Allegri was pleased with Milan’s performance, but warned “we have to take our chances better.”

The Rossoneri dominated the first half and were 1-0 up through Stephan El Shaarawy, but Samir Handanovic’s heroics kept Inter in the game until Ezequiel Schelotto secured a 1-1 result.

“I am not angry. I’m happy with what the team did, an excellent first half with many scoring opportunities,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“Despite dropping a little in intensity after the break, we allowed little and Christian Abbiati made one good save.

“We should’ve controlled possession better to make Inter run after us, as we ended up doing things that we shouldn’t in a game like this.

“In the first half Inter couldn’t get near us and we should’ve been better with them being tired after the break, but we didn’t.”

Schelotto had a free header and this was the 13th header that Milan have conceded this season in Serie A.

“Schelotto did well and it was good Yuto Nagatomo cross. We need to score goals when we get the opportunities, because we cannot expect to have the game in hand for the entire 90 minutes. We have to take our chances better.

“I think the team remains in good shape and this was an ‘away’ game against Inter. It’s a shame, as we should’ve won, but then we beat Udinese at the 92nd minute when we deserved a draw, so that is football.

“When a match is hanging by a thread, you have to kill it off. Possession is crucial when you are in control of a game, but we gave the ball away too many times tonight.

“I complimented the lads after the game, as they put in a good performance and the pressure to win was on Inter as the ‘home’ side, not us.”

Allegri was asked why his teams traditionally have very poor starts to the season, as Milan were in crisis by Week 7.

“Unfortunately, that is something me and my staff are reflecting on, as it is a consistent trend with us. Maybe it takes a little time for us to settle, especially this season when we had made so many changes. I hope next term the team will be more prepared to get good results straight away.”

Allegri has been linked with the Roma job, but this week President Silvio Berlusconi pledged to renew his contract with a pay rise.

“I am very happy at Milan and was pleased with the President’s words, though I already knew he had faith in me. He proved that by not firing me after seven rounds! We are in good shape at the moment and hope to continue.”
