Massimiliano Allegri says Juventus will test Federico Chiesa in a friendly match before his definitive return to the team and sends a message to Gonzalo Higuain after the striker announced his retirement.

The Bianconeri are preparing for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Maccabi Haifa and the Tuscan tactician claimed that it’s going to be the ‘most important’ game for the team in Europe this season.

Federico Chiesa is still not available, but partially trained with the group yesterday and today and could be back in action by the end of the month.

“I am happy with Federico, he is back after nine months and it’s a relief,” Allegri said at his pre-match press conference today.

“Surely, it’s hard to train alone. We’ll assess him day by day. We’ll organise a friendly to test him before his definitive return to the squad.”

The Italy international had suffered a knee injury in a 4-3 win over Roma in January.

Former Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain announced his retirement on Monday and Allegri sent a message to the Argentinean forward who spent three years in Turin, scoring 66 goals in 149 appearances.

“I spent amazing years with him. It’s a pity when these players retire, it was a pleasure to work with him and I wish him the best for his second life. A footballer lives twice.”

Higuain scored 55 goals in 105 appearances under the Tuscan tactician at the Allianz Stadium and won three Serie A titles (one with Maurizio Sarri in charge) and two Coppa Italia.
