Max Allegri warns Juventus ‘have to accept the reality’ that they are currently not better than Verona and have to regain their humility to ‘battle’ for every point.

The Bianconeri suffered another surprising 2-1 defeat, this time at Hellas Verona after the midweek loss to Sassuolo, picking up one point from the last three rounds.

They were already 13 points off the leaders going into this weekend and have now been caught on 15 points by Verona, who have a superior goal difference to the Old Lady.

Serie A | Verona 2-1 Juventus: Simeone dooms Allegri

“Words are meaningless right now. We’re in a bad situation, we have to accept the reality that right now we are a mid-table team. We can get out of this situation with a little more determination and quality,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We will drag ourselves out of this situation. There’s no point feeling sorry for ourselves, that won’t help, we just need to focus on what we need to do and then things will sort themselves out.”

Juventus have conceded 15 goals after 11 rounds, their worst tally since 1961-62, and scored only 15 with 15 points earned.

“It’s a good squad, but things don’t always go your way in football. We have to react with pride and determination. We had to play like a team that had one point, and we did, now we have to play like a team that has 15 points.

“We realised Verona were going to make it physical and a battle for every ball, so if you don’t meet them at that level, you will lose.

“Wearing the Juventus jersey does not give us a guarantee we must beat the teams in mid-table. We have to earn every point and do it with the right attitude.

“Football is football, it is not fencing. You need to fight it out on the pitch at the same level. We lost a lot of tackles and aerial duels against Sassuolo too, and they are frankly not a very physical side.

“Verona knew that was how they had to play in order to beat Juventus. Our mistake was assuming we were better than Verona, and right now we are not. We must be realistic.”

Allegri hit hard on the issue of humility and arrogance, seeing his team take too much for granted after a series of 1-0 wins.

“There is no big team that has ever won without respecting their opponents. We are lacking that desire to fight it out, because games are a battle.

“There’s nothing we can say now, we just need to stay silent and work hard to prove ourselves on the pitch. Scudetto? Well today was almost the final step for that.”

Allegri’s frustration on the touchline was evident, especially as in the final minutes he took off his coat and threw it to the ground, an image famously seen against Carpi many years ago.

“It’s not motivational, it’s just that the first chance we concede, the ball goes in. That’s not a coincidence, it’s about the attitude and we need to get back to the attitude we had earlier in the season.

“At this moment, everything looks negative, but we must be clear-headed, analyse what’s working and what isn’t, see who is more or less tired and can help out.”

  1. Straight from the Babylon Bee. This genius does not realise that they are worse and he has always been a lucky one trick pony. He only won 5 Scudetti as Conte had laid everything for him. There was no competition and the fans who mention 2 CL finals, did he win…

Now that there is competition and the lesser teams play without fear he has been totally exposed. His 2 years off must have been spent in a coma as the game has changed and he has no ability to change regardless of the players. Sarri and Pirlo had the same players. One did not know the club and the other had 0 experience yet they are better.

  2. I DON’T KNOW WHEN YOU GET YOIR RIGHT PATH BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND WHERE THE PROBLEM IS COMING. I MY SELF KNOW THE SOLUTION TO SOLVE THIS CRISES BY CHANGING SIMPLY THE UGLIEST FORMATION YOU ARE USING NOW WHICH IS 4.4.2 TRY TO USE YOUR OLD FORMATION OF 3.5.2.OR 3.4.3 OR 4.3.3 IF YOU USE THESE FORMATIONS YOU WILL WIN 100% OTHERWISE YOU WOULD BE FIRED.

  3. It does not matter what formation you have. The players are not good enough to do that. It might sound simple but the reality is the players are limited. The best thing is to not sack Allegri and let him ride out the next 4 years. It would be costly to get rid of yet another coach and to be replaced with someone who will inherit the same players. Juventus fans won so much but it is time to go into the wilderness just like Milan and Inter had to endure for all those years.

  4. Guy you are the problem that formation is outdated, who plays 4-4-2 these days, please change back to what Conte used for us 3-5-2 you inherited players with the work ethic of Conte reason why u where successful in the first place, I remember u almost relegated AC Milan and they sacked u, u went on a hiatus and came back to coaching when Conte left, you are not good the players are not the problem your philosophy of football is, look in the mirror you would see the problem with Juve there. U

  5. Agree @ Jedidiah totally, Allegri was only successful in the past with Juve because of the team he inherited from Conte and had no real competition, in seria a, and abroad ,
Also agree that in the last couple of yrs he has had time to watch and learn from the outside,
he must’ve been on another planet not to see the progression and playing styles of other teams in seria a and abroad
    He is totally useless ,
I shudder to imagine if he was was brought back to AC instead of Pioii where we would be now OMG fighting relegation in his boring football

  6. @Zubin the formation does matter, for example Lampard used a terrible formation with Chelsea and they went nowhere, but when Tuchel changed the formation to suit the strengths of the players he had at his disposal, they won the Champions league almost immediately, the players aren’t bad but the 4-4-2 formation is trash… changing the coach might also help, rehiring an old coach is like reading a book for a second time, you know exactly how it’s going to end

  7. In addition to the problem of training, Juventus must stop receiving players at zero cost, if you want quality you must invest well, it is true you do not have money, goodbye ramsey, rabiot Arthur, the midfield must be renewed like the entire defensive line, it will be expensive but it is necessary

  8. We must change the formation and invest in midfield and defense, goodbye rabiot, ramsey, Arthur, enough players who come at zero cost, they harm us

  9. These Juventus fans are gift that keeps on giving. Now they want to change formation. Zubin is correct, you can only do that if you have the players. Sarri couldn’t do it nor could Pirlo as the players are not suited to that role or style of play. Chelsea is completely different as Tuchel is world class for starters. Also Chelsea have oil money and have great players in every position. Investments are a waste of time talking about as Juventus do not have PL style finances. Corona hit them harder and the tv rights are paltry. Even lower league PL clubs get more money from the tv rights. If they do not reach 4th spot they will need to sell De Ligt, Chiesa, Kulu and Dybala will leave for free.
