Allegri discussed team selection and the mental state of his players at today’s Press conference ahead of the clash.

“I will evaluate any changes, I’ve also got Marchisio risking suspension,” he said.

“Khedira definitely won’t play, along with Zaza. I’d prefer to rest Khedira ahead of the game on Sunday.

“Sturaro is fine, so are Asamoah and Padoin. Tomorrow the best team for the two legs will be on the pitch. Pogba was rested in Udine, I’ll see whether or not to play him.

“We mustn’t always use the same players. There are still many games left from now until the end of the season.

“We need to assess today whether or not Bonucci can play. The team worked well over the holidays and are more or less all doing well. They need to be good at maintaining this condition.

“We must be less conscious as our thought is always about the record and that can put more pressure on. For now we’ll think about the Coppa Italia, and then we’ll think about Chievo.

“Our young players bring enthusiasm. But our older players must also have this, otherwise they become even older.

“Thinking too much is bad, we need to go out on the pitch with a more carefree attitude.

“The match against Inter is very important, the finalist will come from a double Derby d’Italia.”

Allegri also left a brief comment on the club’s transfer market activity, underlining that he only wants quality reinforcements this month.

“It doesn’t make sense to sign a player who doesn’t improve the squad,” he said.

“And to improve it, we need a player on the top level in Europe.”
