The standings after Week 4 of Serie A see Inter leading the table with a full 12 points, as Roma, Milan and the Bianconeri trail at 8, 6 and 4 points respectively.

“Inter are the first candidates alongside Roma and Juventus,” said Allegri after today’s 2-0 victory against Genoa.

“The Scudetto is determined by the standings, and they’ve won four games.

“They’re doing well, but right now it’s senseless to talk of the scudetto. Let’s be realistic.

“Inter are solid and a candidate for the final victory, but I’m not going to step aside.

“[Roma Coach Rudi] Garcia is doing the opposite of what he did last year. The truth of the matter is that Inter are first and the favourites, while Roma are there and fighting for it.

“As for ourselves, we gathered a nice victory to leave the bottom of the standings.”

Allegri then went on to discuss the individual players in today’s game.

“[Paul] Pogba did what he is meant to do. [Mario] Lemina was chosen with a view to today’s physical game.

“Hernanes burned a lot of energy against Chievo and Manchester [City] and I was at risk of losing him too, so I decided to rest him.

“[Simone] Zaza came in today, I have many players and he has to integrate himself. He’ll get some playing time too.

“The counter-attack? Those were tecnica errors on our side. We must improve in possession too, when we were up by a man we should have played the ball after a certain amount of passes, but not three.”
