Angel Di Maria had his first Serie A start since September and went off with a calf problem, but Max Allegri assured Juventus fans it was only a bit of cramp.

The Argentina international returned late from the World Cup celebrations and did not make the trip to Cremona on January 4.

He returned to the starting XI for this evening’s 1-0 victory over Udinese in Turin, which Di Maria had not done in Serie A since September 18.

Fideo was spotted on the field doing stretching exercises and touching his calf muscle before going off at the 66th minute, raising the fear of another muscular injury in this troubled campaign.

However, Allegri was reassuring in the post-match press conference.

“His performance was extraordinary on a technical level, in the second half he had a couple of marvellous moves. He is a player on another level,” said the coach.

“It was just a bit of cramp, nothing to be too concerned about. It’s normal after playing 65 minutes when he had been off the field for 15 days.”

Di Maria is therefore expected to be ready to play next week’s Serie A top of the table showdown with leaders Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
