There was tension at the final whistle when Juventus lost to Benfica, as Angel Di Maria seemed to ask Arek Milik why he had been substituted, a decision Max Allegri later explained.

The Poland international had opened the scoring after just four minutes with a glancing header on the Leandro Paredes free kick.

However, Benfica equalised with a penalty on the stroke of half-time and then turned it around completely for a 2-1 victory.

At the final whistle, Di Maria was caught on camera asking Milik why he had been substituted and his teammate seemed to shrug in irritation.

Allegri spoke at a press conference afterwards and was asked about the decision to haul Milik off.

“Angel only had half a training session with the squad and needed playing time to regain fitness. I took Milik off because we were struggling with only two midfielders.

“I had to take a striker off, I took Milik off, who seemed more tired.”

  1. Taking a forward off who is in good form when you are down 1-2 is the height of stupidity. Allegri’s substitutions never give the team a chance to actually win the game. On this point alone he should be sacked, let alone for his other deficiencies as a ‘manager’.

  2. @frankie

Game against Bayern Munich comes to mind when he took Morata off who was causing their defence problems. Really don’t understand his subs

  3. CALMAAA!!!

You are one the many who sang the praises when the dinosaur returned to roam the swamp. Yours truly has always been consistent and nothing can change course. PhD Max is on route to creating or has already created a fully zombified club.

  4. @ADP

I still remember that match. Still hurts because we deserved to win.
But Allegri being the coward that he is, wanted to close shop and took Morata off.

Allegri says “I took Milik off because we were struggling with only two midfielders.” Well then maybe your initial approach to the match that was wrong.

  5. For the love of God you do NOT want Tuchel here. He’s not a manager, he’s a bad babysitter. I’d rather see Bielsa come in and switch things up
