Massimiliano Allegri insists he is not losing the Juventus dressing room and explains that he hit back at a journalist because he ‘wanted to replace a coach.’
Allegri looked irritable during a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia on Sunday after a 0-0 draw against Genoa at the Allianz Stadium.
The Italian tactician held a post-match press conference attended bby Football Italia following his interview with Sky and offered his view on the incident.
“I wasn’t irritable, I only replied to somebody who wanted to replace a coach,” said Allegri.
“I am happy with what the team is doing. We did a lot in the first part of the season, but we are not doing enough in the second part. On May 26, we must be among the top four.”
Juventus players slept at Continassa on Friday and Sunday night, but it was not a punitive retreat. Allegri was asked if he was losing the dressing room and if he expected more from the team.
“The team proved to be united. I can’t blame the lads, and I see today’s game as a positive one because it will give us a nice push towards the end of the season.
“We didn’t improve just because we spent one day in retreat. Now we must remain quiet and work hard to return to winning,” concluded the coach.
Juventus have won just one game from the last eight and are third in the table, 11 points below Roma, who rank fifth with a game in hand.
Their next Serie A game is against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on March 30, after the international break.
