Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri admits Timothy Weah played ‘as a full-back’ against Torino, but his compatriot Weston McKennie was ‘good at covering and helping him defensively.’

Both American players started in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Torino in the Derby della Mole on Saturday, playing 90 minutes each.

Allegri used a 3-5-2 formation with Weah wide on the right flank and McKennie used as a central midfielder for the first time this season.

The Old Lady’s boss spoke about the Americans’ performance at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.

“Weah played well as a full-back, he ran forward and McKennie was good at covering and helping him defensively, they played a good game,” said Allegri.

McKennie had made his previous seven appearances this season playing as a right wing-back in place of Weah.

This was the first time they started together for Juventus.

Oddly, McKennie’s father had urged Allegri to change his son’s position, playing him in central midfield with Weah wide on the right flank.

Juventus sit third in the Serie A table, two below leaders Inter, following Saturday’s win over their city rivals.
