The Rossoneri had scraped just three points from their previous five Serie A games, but fought back from a goal down to win 3-1 in Sicily.
“The performance was one of great intensity and unfortunately we conceded a goal at the first chance,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We could’ve scored more, but in any case were able to win with a two-goal cushion. The one thing I’d like to see is a better control of possession after taking the lead, but overall I liked the team. We are pushing forward and the work is starting to bear fruit.”
Balotelli was substituted after repeatedly arguing with Catania defender Nicolas Spolli, who he reportedly accused of using a racist insult.
“It was a fair game, I don’t think anything happened,” shrugged Allegri. “Balotelli was a little tense and I preferred to remove him from the game, especially as were 3-1 up and he needs to rest.”
This has been a tense last few days for Milan, as Vice-President Adriano Galliani had his resignation rejected to become joint CEO with Barbara Berlusconi.
“We were at the training ground and didn’t realise any of this storm was going on. The President took an important decision and we are all working for the good of Milan.”
