Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri admits Federico Gatti’s own goal against Sassuolo was ‘ugly’ but did not impact the result.

The Bianconeri suffered their first defeat this season, losing 4-2 against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium on Saturday.

Federico Gatti scored an incredible own goal in the stoppages, so Allegri was asked about the defender’s reaction.

“He has made errors and he will do more in his career,” the Old Lady’s boss said at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.

“He has played 30 games for Juventus, I think. He must remain calm, the error was ugly to see but did not impact the result. We must be quiet and work towards Lecce, the only unbeaten team with Inter.”

Allegri had predicted on Friday that the game against Sassuolo would be a tricky one for the Bianconeri and repeated the same during a post-match interview with DAZN and at a post-match press conference.

“There had been euphory around the team since Thursday,” insisted Allegri.

“People said Juventus must win the title. It’s not the case, we must earn a top-four finish which will be difficult. We must be aware that we must struggle enormously to win every game. We are not able to turn and off quickly, we lost an ugly game and we must return to winning on Tuesday.”

Allegri reiterated that Wojciech Szczęsny is the “starter” between the sticks and confirmed that he will make “some changes” in the upcoming Serie A game against Lecce on Tuesday.
