He said the Toffees ‘great history’ and ‘sporting project’ convinced him.

“First of all, Everton are a big team with a great history,” he told Liverpool Echo.

“Also, with the sporting project that’s being put together here, with plans for a new stadium, Ancelotti as the coach, it’s a great thing.

“So, when the opportunity came up to come here, I didn’t think twice. I embraced the project.

“To be here playing in this League and wearing Everton’s shirt is a really nice dream come true.”

The former Napoli midfielder loves to work under the Italian tactician Ancelotti.

“Carlo is a top guy, someone who manages to keep all members of the squad happy,” he added.

“He knows how to treat players on a day-to-day basis, which is crucial because he manages to get 100 per cent out of the players.

“It’s great working with him. We’ve had some ups and downs but with Carlo’s calmness and wisdom, I’m convinced moving forward we’ll improve.”
