All or Nothing: Juventus | ‘You could tell Ronaldo’s time was coming to a close’

The All or Nothing: Juventus crew felt Cristiano Ronaldo’s time in Serie A was coming to a close during their year following the Bianconeri, a producer on the Amazon documentary tells Football Italia.

Fulwell 73’s Ben Turner was part of the team working with Juve during the pandemic-disrupted 2020-21 campaign, when Andrea Pirlo was Juventus coach and oversaw a fourth-place finish, ending the Old Lady’s run of nine consecutive Scudetto victories. All or Nothing: Juventus premieres on Amazon Prime this week.

Turner spoke to Football Italia about his experience covering Juve, explaining the documentary makers wanted to capture the ‘culture’ and the ‘peculiar’ things about the club, which he describes as a ‘special opportunity to follow one of the biggest clubs in the world.’

Ronaldo’s final season at Juventus proved to be a turbulent one, with joy and frustration going hand-in-hand throughout the campaign and Turner and the team there to document it.

“It was pretty amazing. [Ronaldo] really has an aura, and you can see everyone raising their game when he comes along,” Turner tells Football Italia, adding that while Ronaldo is prominently featured in the eight-episode series, this is not a documentary about the 36-year-old.

“I think he’s a big part of the story but not the whole story of Juventus’ season,” Turner adds. “So the balance is about right.”

Ronaldo left the Allianz Stadium and re-joined Manchester United in August, and Turner admitted it felt like the Portugal captain was heading out of the door even as the cameras were present. He added that the futures of some other Juve veterans were of even greater interest.

“Towards the end of the season, you could feel like his time might be coming to a close at Juve,” Turner says regarding Ronaldo. “But it felt more significant that it might be [Giorgio] Chiellini or [Gigi] Buffon’s last season from the perspective of the club and the Italian league.”
