Incoming goalkeeper Alisson looks forward to a 'fair rivalry' with Wojciech Szczesny, whilst revealing why he chose Roma.

The Brazilian had originally been signed as a replacement for the on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper, but everything is up in the air now as it seems Szczesny might remain with the Giallorossi.

“I spoke with the Coach, he explained what I have to do and how play should always start from the back,” said Alisson in his first Press conference as a Lupo. “I'm glad to be here, my idol Falcao played for Roma and I hope to walk in his footsteps.

“There are some differences compared to my previous team Internacional in terms of the goalkeeper training, but for the rest, the preparation is very similar.

“I'm here to prove my worth, and I'll give my best for all the people here.”

The 23-year-old was then asked whether he preferred Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon or Germany's Manuel Neuer, and also whether he'd be competing with Szczesny.

“I grew up with the legend of Buffon, and now there's Neuer. The Italian is stronger technically, while the German bases himself on speed. I admire them both.

“As for Szczesny, I'll say again that it's not an important matter. He's strong and he did well. There's going to be a fair rivalry with him.

“My passport? I could become a national, but there's nothing concrete in that field so far.

“I chose Roma for a simple reason, for the faith that they had in me from the beginning. They offered an excellent working project and this is the right choice for me. My family and I will be very happy in Rome.”

Finally, Alisson was asked to describe himself as a 'keeper.

“I find it hard to talk about myself. I consider myself a quick goalkeeper with a good sense of positioning. I try to live games actively.

“I'm good at coming out of the box with the ball in my feet, to kick-start play again. But I can improve in that, and that's one of things I'll focus on.”
