Former Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea defender Alex announces his retirement from football after a knee injury.
The 34-year-old left the Rossoneri are the end of last season, and had intended to see out his career in his native Brazil.
However, the centre-back has suffered a knee injury, and despite an approach from Santos he has decided to hang up his boots.
“I’m retiring, I made the decision with my family,” Alex told Globoesporte.

“I would need to have surgery and then it would take nine months to come back. I just couldn’t put up with that pain.”
